Sanitary Sewer Overview

A sanitary sewer is the system of pipes used to transport human waste and greywater.  The sewer lines are part of the sanitary sewer system that is comprised of the drain line, main line, and lateral line.

Drain Line

  • Receives all waste and greywater discharged by a home’s plumbing fixtures such as toilets, tubs, and sinks and carries the waste to where is connects with the sewer line

Sewer Line

  • Removes waste and greywater from your home and carries it to where it connects to the main line

Main Line

  • The main line collects sewerage and greywater from multiple buildings and carries it to the sewage treatment plant

All plumbing fixtures and appliances that connect to the drainage system should drain instantaneously and without restriction.  To help ensure the free flow of greywater and sewage, GPS Plumbing, a full service plumbing company, offers a comprehensive and full set of drain and sewer line services.

About Clogs

A clog is an obstruction in the drain system that inhibits the flow of sewage and wastewater.  A clog is a very serious problem that should be considered a plumbing emergency.  When drain lines clog or become partially blocked:

  • Their efficiency is reduced
  • Waste removal capabilities are significantly reduced or prevented
  • Wastewater backups into the home

If you have a clogged drain, avoid or minimize the use of toilets, sinks, showers, and bathtubs until a professional plumber such as GPS Plumbing clears the clog.  We are experts at clearing:

  • The most difficult drain clog regardless cause - refuge, grease, or other types of debris
  • Any drainage related stoppage regardless of its location

GPS Plumbing can find the clog and clear the clog quickly and efficiently by either:

  • Snaking the line that runs a flexible metal device (a Plumber’s Snake) down the drain line to clear the blockage and feel for any physical damage to the line
  • Cleaning the Line, which uses a specialty-plumbing tool, with a flexible steel cable, and rotating cutting blade that spins through the drainpipes.  The tool cuts through the clog, and cleans the drainpipe right down to its inner walls
